TIME FOR A CHANGE
a temporary audition turned into a full-
time gig for MARGARET COLTMAN, the
new group general counsel and com-
pany secretary of london-based Pru-
dential Plc. Coltman took the job on an
interim basis in July,
when PETER MAYNARD
vacated the position
after nearly a decade
in the role. Prudential
officially named her
the new gC and secre-
tary in December.
Coltman, who

comment, previously
worked at lloyds TSB, but her tenure
there was brief. Coltman joined the
company in December 2007 as general
counsel. But when lloyds TSB agreed
to a $19.5 billion merger with HBoS
plc, the biggest mortgage lender in the
United Kingdom, HBoS general coun-
sel Harry Baines—not Coltman—was
named chief legal counsel of the joint
banking giant, leaving her future with
the company uncertain. She left for
Prudential just 18 months after joining
lloyds.
