I BELIEVE THAT TEAMWORK IS THE CORNERSTONE TO ANY HIGH-LEVEL SUC-
cess—not to mention that it makes the work extremely more enjoyable.
I am lucky to have a great team—a group of very talented reporters, editors and production gurus whose effort day after day brings
you content that is imperative in helping you succeed at your job. I
acknowledge that I am one very lucky editor. And I am the first to say
that they make me look good.
Our cover feature this month is also about recognizing teamwork—
the teamwork it takes to get deals done, win litigation and enact legislative change. It may be a cliché, but it truly takes a village for a legal
department to succeed: a village that consists of in-house lawyers, law
firms and outside counsel, the company’s business leaders and legal
As you know, this is my first year leading Corporate Counsel’s
Best Legal Departments coverage. And although I am not new to
this type of award, I was truly humbled by the quality of submissions.
And to be frank, it made my task very difficult. There is so much topnotch work going on in U.S. companies, all led by incredible in-house
But I think these four departments profiled in this issue stand out,
for unique reasons. Because of this, we wanted to recognize each honoree equally. That is why this issue has four separate covers which were
mailed out at random. So Vogue, I know. Make sure to collect them all!
So a sincere thank you to all the legal teams that took the time to
submit their work for consideration. You should be very proud of your
accomplishments this past year.
